On February 25th, we opened the grounds of our estate in Greatham for the annual Snowdrop Sunday event.
This event gives the general public the chance to look around our stunning grounds and woodland that bloom annually with thousands of snowdrops. The event marks the beginning of spring in Hartlepool, and helps raise funds for the Greatham in Bloom initiative, which sees the local village decorated with flower and plants.
Our gardeners worked hard to prepare the grounds and make sure that the footpaths were accessible for the general public. This was not an easy task after heavy rain meant parts of the path had become water logged, but their hard work was rewarded with over 500 people attending this year's event.
Lorraine Meakin, Secretary of the Greatham in Bloom Committee stated, "The event went extremely well so we were pleased with it. The weather certainly helped, as it came out nice for us. There was a brilliant turn out, and all of the village turned up to help which were very appreciative of."
The funds raised will be used to buy plants for the Greatham in Bloom initiative that benefits all local residents in the village.
The Hospital of God periodically has a number of almshouses and private properties available to let in Greatham. For more information on these visit our page at
