The Hospital of God at Greatham is celebrating after being shortlisted as North East Charity of the Year in the North East Charity Awards 2022.

The awards, which are now in their eighth year, will take place at The Fed in Gateshead on October 19 and will highlight the region’s top charities, as well as fundraisers and leaders in the voluntary sector.

The Hospital of God has a long and proud history of working with older people, those living with a dementia and their family carers people living in the East Durham, Hartlepool and North Tees area. Additionally, though its grants programme supporting a number of local charities and social enterprises across the North East.

Next year, the Charity will celebrate its 750th anniversary. This is a phenomenal achievement and is testament to the Charity’s resilience. With a historic foundation, the Charity has flourished into a modern organisation.

The Charity aims to work as a partner in care and support to the many people it works with on a daily basis, providing empowering person-centred care, support and housing services for people, particularly older people, those living with a dementia their carers and families.

Established in 1273 by Bishop Robert de Stichell, the Hospital of God employs over 100 staff and its portfolio of services span:
